New York Times reporter Rukmini Callimachi to deliver Wikenden Memorial Lecture

The department of comparative religion will present the 2018-2019 Arthur C. Wikenden Memorial Lecture Wednesday, March 13, with featured lecturer Rukmini Callimachi.

The event will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Miami University Shriver Center Dolibois Room and will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with Miami faculty.

Callimachi is a New York Times foreign correspondent and a three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist. She specializes in reporting on the Islamic State and has been cited by U.S. lawmakers and foreign governments.

WIRED magazine called Callimachi, “…arguably the best reporter on the most important beat in the world.”

In the lecture titled “Speaking to the Enemy: The Making of ‘The Caliphate’ Podcast,” Callimachi will speak about the Times’ top of the charts podcast and reveal how she has “built her beat by speaking to those we consider to be the embodiment of evil.”

The event is free and open to the public and co-sponsored by the departments of Middle East and Islamic studies, global and intercultural studies and media, journalism and film.
