Search committees named for Graduate School dean and vice president for research and innovation

During its September regular meeting, Miami University’s board of trustees approved a resolution to create two separate positions: dean and associate provost of the Graduate School and vice president for research and innovation. Provost Jason Osborne has appointed search committees for each of the openings.

Miami has engaged the national search firm of Isaacson, Miller to assist with both searches. The firm will actively engage with faculty and staff and update the Miami community on its progress.

James T. Oris, vice president for research and innovation and dean of the Graduate School, has announced he will be completing his term in 2020.

Dean of the Graduate School

Jerome Conley, dean of Miami University Libraries, will chair the search committee for the dean and associate provost of the Graduate School. The committee members are:

  • Bryan Ashenbaum – management
  • Ahjah Johnson, student affairs in higher education doctoral program
  • Kevin Matteson - Project Dragonfly
  • Brenda Mitchell - music
  • Barbara Oswald - social and behavioral science
  • Valerie Robinson - graduate school
  • Donna Scarborough - speech pathology and audiology
  • Andrew Sommers - mechanical and manufacturing engineering
  • Ben Susman, history master’s program
  • Kyle Timmerman - kinesiology and health

Vice president for research and innovation

Suzanne Kunkel, executive director of the Scripps Gerontology Center and Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Gerontology, will chair the search committee for the vice president for research and innovation. The committee members are:

  • Ann Elizabeth Armstrong – theatre
  • Tom Boulton – finance
  • Gabe Ortiz Celemin, undergraduate student in public health, premedical studies co-major
  • DJ Ferguson - microbiology and biological sciences
  • Amber Franklin - speech pathology and audiology
  • Lei Kerr - chemical, paper and biomedical engineering
  • Gary Lorigan – chemistry
  • Amity Noltemeyer - educational psychology
  • Anne Schauer - Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship
  • Sarah Woodruff - Discovery Center for Evaluation, Research, and Professional Learning
  • Indrima Upadhyay, computational electronics and computer engineering master’s program
