Changes to Google Drive include unlimited storage

By Cathy McVey, senior director, IT communication and customer advocacy

As a Google Apps for Education institution, Miami University recently received an update in our storage space for all users.  Miami users now have access to unlimited storage for their Google Drive files, Gmail messages and Google+ photos.  Until this change, Google Apps for Education users only had access to 30GB of free space for our accounts.

Update on new Google Drive interface
Last year, Google updated the Drive interface to become the default user experience for the Miami domain. IT retained the ability to return to the old Drive user interface via the Settings drop down.

Sometime in May Google will remove the option to return to the old Drive user interface via Settings in the drop-down menu. At least two weeks before the removal of the option to return to the old Drive user interface, Google will show a notification in the Drive user interface about the upcoming change.

Please note that the new drive user interface does not work with older unsupported browsers prior to and including Chrome 23, Firefox 23, IE9 and Safari 6, so it’s important to upgrade to a supported browser to ensure continued access to Drive.
