Protected Classes

The Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity investigates reports of harassment and discrimination based on protected classes, only. A protected class is a group of people who share common characteristics and are protected from harassment and discrimination.

Classes that are protected under federal and/or state laws and/or Miami University policy include

  • Sex (including sexual harassment, sexual violence, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking)
  • Race
  • Color
  • Religion
  • National origin
  • Disability status
  • Age
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity
  • Pregnancy
  • Military and veteran status
