Program overview

The EMET program enables graduates of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and similar associate degree engineering technology programs to complete their bachelor's degree in Applied Science with a major in Engineering Technology, and an Electro-Mechanical concentration. 

Courses for the EMET program are offered at Miami University's regional locations in Hamilton and Middletown and also via distance learning at 10 selected college partner locations in Ohio.

Curriculum overview

The curriculum focuses on electro-mechanical instrumentation and process control. This field incorporates elements of both electrical and mechanical engineering technology.

The electrical component of the curriculum includes course work in areas such as

  • computerized instrumentation
  • data acquisition, and
  • electrical control systems.

The mechanical component consists of traditional engineering sciences including

  • fluid mechanics, and
  • dynamics.

Integration of the electrical and mechanical components takes place through courses that emphasize the development and control of automated industrial systems through the use of artificial intelligence, graphical user interface, and electro-mechanical systems design.

Upon successful completion of the program the student will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree with a major in Engineering Technology. 

Career possibilities for graduates

Graduates of the program are engineering technologists prepared to fill industrial positions in areas directly related to process control, electronic instrumentation, testing, manufacturing, sales, and service. Typical engineering technologist's duties may include analysis and design of process control equipment, laboratory testing services, product sales and service, applications engineering, and the development of systems that require a hardware/software interface.
