Service

My focus in service is two-fold; Service to the mental health community and to nursing students. A major portion of my service is embedded in service-learning within my teaching of NSG 452: Nursing Care of Clients Experiencing Mental Health Disorders and their Families. Students are engaged in MPWER (Miami Partnership to Empower and Renew) group projects within their community portion of clinical. Our projects focus on empowering mental health clients in their quest for wellness. A few of our projects were titled, Coping Quilts, My Voice in Photos, Harboring Hope, Sit or be Fit, and Journey of Gratitude. I am also the Faculty Advisor for the Hamilton Student Nurse Association (SNA). Working closely with the student nurse leaders, we strive to create an internal student network and mentorship and to promote service activities toward health and community issues within the campus and a variety of communities. The annual Butler County NAMI walk is an annual event the SNA is involved with.
