Find a Mentor

Peer Mentoring

Could you use some help with transitioning to college, or help to transition to upper-level courses?  Would you benefit from being able to take better notes in class, or read a textbook, or know how to study for a test?  Are you not sure who to ask about getting connected to university resources or community support services?  A peer mentor may be just what you need!
College is a big step for many students, and the Peer Mentor program is designed to assist you in your academic success.  Working with a Peer Mentor can help you be more prepared academically and socially for the challenges you face.  The purpose of the Peer Mentor program is to promote the improvement of academic success, persistence, and successful graduation.  Peer Mentors do not work with specific course content like Peer Tutors do, but they are very effective in helping you with study skills, getting connected on campus, and working through the adjusting to college life.
Some examples of study skills offered during a mentoring session are:
  • Time Management
  • Organizational Skills
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • How to Read a College Textbook
  • How to Study for the Sciences
  • Tips on How to Succeed in a Lecture Course
  • Tips on How to Work Successfully in a Group Project
  • Preparing for a Test

If there is a skill that you need help in, please contact our office in Hamilton at 513-785-3139 and we will try and address those needs.
