Chair's Welcome

Chris Connell

Greetings, friends!

As we approach the 50th anniversary of Miami Hamilton, I am reminded of the reasons the Hamilton campus was founded in the first place. There are eight of them:

  1. Make college affordable for students from middle and lower income families;
  2. Eliminate the expense of room and board;
  3. Enjoy the convenience of having a Miami University campus within our Hamilton community, thus saving students both time and the expense of a long commute;
  4. Benefit local business and industry by Increasing the number of college-trained men and women entering the work force;
  5. Provide opportunities for local adults to complete retraining and self-improvement programs in addition to working toward a degree;
  6. Offer evening and weekend courses for the convenience of working adults;
  7. Provide cultural programs that benefit the community at large (Colligan History Project, Harry T. Wilks Lecture Series, performing Artist Series, Racial Legacies & Learning, etc.), and
  8. Construction and operation would benefit the local economy.

After 50 years of continuous operation, we’re 8-for-8 -- and the future looks even brighter. Today, we have an upgraded mission to provide more career-oriented bachelor’s degrees that students can complete entirely at Miami Regionals in Hamilton and Middletown, without having to relocate to Oxford or transfer to another institution to complete their degree.

There are many other reasons to celebrate Miami Hamilton’s 50th Anniversary. Pick one that resonates with you or someone you love, and join us on Saturday, September 15, 2018, for a fun-filled day!

Love and Honor,
