Dee and Frank Cafaro Pavilion Lounge

At the direction of Debra Cafaro and Terry Livingston of Winnetka, Ill., a $150,000 gift has been directed from the Cafaro Livingston Trust to name The Pavilion Lounge within Miami University's Armstrong Student Center.

Cafaro and Livingston, whose son Kevin is a junior psychology major at Miami, are three-year members of Miami’s Parents Council. According to Cafaro, the gift, made in honor of Kevin’s maternal grandparents Dee and Frank Cafaro, celebrates both Kevin’s college experience and the very idea of ‘Love and Honor.’

Cafaro Lounge“Miami has been a perfect fit for our son as a well-rounded, educational experience, and we really believe in supporting institutions that have been important to our family,” Cafaro said. “This gift is particularly fitting because Miami’s idea of ‘Love and Honor’ ties in with our wish to love and honor my parents for their special relationship with Kevin and the strong bond we share as a family.”

“Through our experience on the Parents Council we’ve come to appreciate the outstanding job Miami does for its students and also to understand the competitive landscape Miami faces as a university,” Cafaro said. “The Armstrong Student Center will be a great addition for the student body and provide an important piece of the puzzle for attracting incoming students.”

Located adjacent to The Pavilion – a long-awaited, student-programmed event space that will accommodate up to 900 people for speaking engagements and 600 for banquets – the Pavilion Lounge will serve as a pre-function space for Pavilion events and as an-open access lounge area for students to gather at other times. The highly functional, third-floor space is located overlooking the Center’s scenic Bicentennial Rotunda area.

“It’s a very social space, and that resonated with us because of Kevin’s experience and the types of activities he’s enjoyed through student leadership opportunities and his involvement with Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity,” Cafaro said. “We hope Miamians will benefit from Pavilion Lounge as they participate in activities and events hosted in The Pavilion and throughout the Armstrong Student Center.”
