Urban Plunge

Urban Plunges are unique overnight experiences held in a variery of urban communities, including Over-the-Rhine (Cincinnati), Hamilton, Middletown, Dayton, and Cleveland. On Urban Plunges, students volunteer in the community, engage with community leaders, and learn more about social justice issues. The program is free and open to all students, faculty and staff. Plunges are limited to no more than 20 participants.

On an Urban Plunge, participants will:

  • Immerse themselves overnight in a vibrant, urban community.

  • Volunteer with local non-profit organizations.

  • Engage with community members, organizers, and leaders.

  • Discuss and reflect on hunger, homelessness, gentrification, and other social justice issues.

  • Discover urban areas' history, artistic expressions, and architectural beauty.

  • Learn about how to view urban areas from an assets-based perspective rather than a deficits-based perspective.
