Work at OCES

In OCES, we are guided above all by one framework--education for democracy. As much as possible, the principles of democracy govern our interactions with students and each other. Our office is an experiential classroom that teaches public leadership (and how to have fun while working hard). Thus, in OCES, student ideas and input are treated with equal weight as that of staff.

OCES Student Fellows learn and practice professionalism, civility, teamwork, and shared decision-making while gaining confidence in themselves as community engagement practitioners. Read more about Student Fellows positions below and visit Meet Our Team to read about who’s on our staff currently.

Program Management Fellows

Program Management Fellows carry out a variety of programs and events. Each student serves as point person in the coordination of at least one major program, event or initiative based on their interest and skills. Student coordinated programs include ComMUnity Connect and Miami SOUP.

Social Media & Marketing Fellows

This team of fellows work to promote community engagement opportunities, events and programs via online media. They also develop promotional materials for the office and generally assist with OCES programs and events. Student-coordinated media include our weekly newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Vote Everywhere Ambassadors

As a part of civic engagement efforts on campus, we have two Miami students who organize voter registration efforts, plans and facilitates civic engagement workshops and generally works to engage students in the political process. Vote Everywhere is a program of the Andrew Goodman Foundation, whose aim is to bring down voting barriers and tackle important social justice issues on college campuses nationwide.
