Early Arrival Program

2017 Early Arrival Program Application is closed. 

Dates: August 18-22, 2017

This program is free for all LSAMP eligible participants. It includes programming, housing and meals. 

LSAMP eligible means: you must be pursuing a STEM degree (or be undecided); from an ethnic group underrepresented in the sciences (African American, Native American, Hispanic, Native Alaskan or Pacific Islander or any mix that includes these); and be a US Citizen or permanent resident.

Students receive confirmation that you have been accepted into the Early Arrival Program by July 15.

Goals for the Bridge Program

  • Build sense of belonging to part of campus community (peers, staff, faculty)
  • Increase knowledge of campus resources and support services
  • Learn strategies for academic success (study skills)
  • Build confidence in making the transition
  • Team building
  • Exposure to many STEM fields/careers
  • Importance of diversity in STEM
  • Building upon present strengths
  • Review Mathematics to prepare for first math course.

What will you do at the LSAMP Early Arrival Program (EAP)

At the LSAMP EAP, you will:

  • Perform the basic parts of being a STEM student by tackling a real world project on the Miami campus (defining a problem, researching a solution, presenting the solution)
  • Meet in teams to share ideas and theorize solutions
  • Tour and do research in the BEST Library and online
  • Learn what LSAMP offers to our students
  • You will learn about what the LSAMP student association is doing
