Off-Campus Ambassadors

The Off-Campus Ambassadors (OCAs) report to the Director of Off-Campus Outreach and Communication. Key functions include advocating for student tenants, educating first and second year students about the transition to living off-campus, and helping to connect and educate off-campus students about their community and their responsibilities as community members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, produce and deliver educational materials, newsletters, presentations, and programs for residence hall students on the transition to living off-campus, health and safety, and rights and responsibilities as community members

  • Collaborate with other university offices on off-campus student programming, including Miami-Community Dinners, the Off-Campus Housing Expo, and ShareFest

  • Relay information to the Office of Off-Campus Outreach and Communication that offers insight into the student experience in off-campus living, including issues student face and ways in which the University can help

  • Attend various Oxford meetings and other relevant community forums to gain an understanding of non-student perspectives, and act as a representative of students in your neighborhood at these meetings

  • Model safe, healthy and respectful behavior: adhere to the Miami University Code of Student Conduct, and all City of Oxford, State of Ohio, and federal laws

  • Attend weekly meetings with other Ambassadors and the Director of Off-Campus Outreach and Communication

  • Brainstorm and initiate new projects and programs for the department to better meet the needs of off-campus students

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Miami University student with minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

  • Familiarity with campus resources, departments, offices and services available at the University and in the City of Oxford

  • Strong written and verbal communication (including copy editing and proofreading)

  • Creative and forward-thinking

  • Energetic interest in fostering community, safety, and responsible behavior among off-campus students

  • Willingness and ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Ability to work with a diverse student and administrative customer base

  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience living off-campus
