Arrival and Parking

Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, is located in southwest Ohio approximately one hour from Cincinnati or Dayton.

For help in planning your visit, see Miami's Visit Page, with detailed information regarding directions, a campus map, travel options, off-campus accommodations, and even local restaurants, churches, and parking.

Arrival to Campus

Students and families should arrive between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for residence hall and program check-in at Beechwoods Hall (231 Western College Drive, Oxford, OH 45056). Parents/family members can wait in the car while students check in and drop off their overnight bags; once your student has checked in, park in the North Campus Parking Garage (see orientation map received at check-in or look for on-campus signs) and make your way to the Armstrong Student Center (550 E. Spring Street, Oxford, OH 45056). Parents/family who are utilizing on-campus overnight accommodations in the residence halls can check in after dinner.

We recommend arriving by 11:30 a.m. if possible, though check-in will remain open until 12 p.m. If you are unable to arrive by 12 p.m., please park at the North Campus Garage (see orientation map or look for on-campus signs) and proceed to the Armstrong Student Center (550 E. Construction Detours

Multiple road construction projects will impact orientation traffic this summer:

  • For those traveling to campus from the south on State Route 27, Patterson Avenue/SR 27 in Oxford will be closed between Chestnut Street and Western College Drive starting Monday, June 4 (Session 4) and extending through the duration of orientation. When you encounter the road closure upon arrival into Oxford, posted signs will direct you along our detour route to orientation check-in. You will turn left on Chestnut Street, proceed two blocks to Oak Street and turn right, then proceed to the stop sign at Spring Street and turn right. Proceed two blocks to Patterson Avenue and take another right, then a quick left onto Western College Drive.
  • U.S. Route 127 in Preble County will be closed from June 12-June 26 (Session 7-Session 15); the closure will be just north of Mann Road to just south of Antioch Road. The detour uses SR 725, SR 122 and U.S. 35; posted signs will direct you along the detour.
  • SR 177 will be closed between Shollenbarger Road and SR 73/Trenton-Oxford Road from Monday, June 4 until Friday, June 29 (Sessions 4-16). The detour uses SR 130, U.S. 27, and SR 73. Signs will direct you along the detour.

If you will encounter any of these construction areas, please plan ahead. You may use our suggested detours, map your own alternate route, or map your trip using resources from the Ohio Department of Transportation, including the OHGO app or

Orientation guests should plan to park in the North Campus parking garage. An orientation parking pass will be emailed to students prior to their session. All orientation guests should print an orientation parking pass at home, and display the pass on the dashboard of their vehicle. More details about orientation parking will be posted as they are confirmed in Spring 2018.
