DAY ONE: STUDENTS & FAMILIES

BEFORE ORIENTATION

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Orientation & Residence Hall Check-In.  10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Drop off your bags in your residence hall room (Beechwoods or Hillcrest Hall for students, and Stonebridge Hall for families/guests) and check-in to receive orientation materials.

Scholastic Enhancement Program Evaluations. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Rinella Center, Shriver Center, Room 310

Mandatory session for varsity athletes and their guests. 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.  Kreger Hall, Room 221
All varsity athletes and their family members should attend this important session to learn about NCAA eligibility.

Access Fellows Session.  11:00 - 11:30 a.m. Rinella Center, Shriver Center, Room 310
Students who are admitted to Miami as a Miami Access Fellow are highly encouraged to attend this session with their guests to learn more about the program and opportunities such as undergraduate research, support services, and extracurricular involvement.

Military-Affiliated Welcome.  11:00 - 11:30 a.m. Kreger Hall, Room 222
This session designed for veterans, active military, and military dependents will inform students of their resources and support at Miami. In addition, it will provide key information about VA education benefits and required next steps. All are welcome, regardless of use of VA benefits. Facilitated by Lindsay Marnell, VA School Certifying Official and Assistant Director of Enrollment Operations.

Campus Tour. 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. Meet at the Orientation Campus Tour sign outside the North entrance of the Armstrong Student Center (near Bishop Woods Circle)
If you haven't taken a campus tour - or you'd like another one - join us to learn more about our beautiful campus and its facilities.  Those unable to attend this in-person tour can take Miami's self-guided tour; printed instructions for the self-guided tour will be available at the information desk of the Armstrong Student Center during summer orientation. 

Lunch - on your own. Grab lunch at the on-or off-campus location of your choice before the orientation program begins


ORIENTATION PROGRAM

11:30 - 12:30 p.m.

Resource Fair—Armstrong Student Center
Before the formal orientation program begins, you’ll have time to learn about Miami resources and involvement opportunities at the Resource Fair. Staff from many offices around campus will be available to answer your questions and let you know about a wide array of resources and support for Miami students. The formal program begins promptly at 12:45pm.


11:30 - 12:30 p.m.

Food Drive—Armstrong Student Center
If you brought canned goods for the orientation food drive, please drop them off before the program begins. Forgot your donation, but still want to participate? You can purchase items for the food drive at the Emporium on the 2nd floor of the Armstrong Student Center.


12:45 - 1:15 p.m.

Orientation WelcomeArmstrong Student Center, Pavilion

  • The Four Cs of Orientation and Transition at Programs at Miami
  • Introduction of Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders (SOULs)

1:15 - 1:55 p.m.

Small Groups (Students) and Housing and Dining (Families & Guests)


1:55 - 5:30 p.m.

Academic Sessions, including:

  • Liberal Education Presentation – Armstrong Student Center, Pavilion
  • Curriculum overview of academic division and major – various locations
  • Opportunity to explore additional majors outside of students’ declared major (optional) – various locations
  • Drop-in help for Math & Foreign Language Placement (optional)
  • University Honors Program Help Session
  • Study Abroad Info Session (optional)

4:30 - 6:45 p.m. 
Dinner, Western Dining Commons

7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Tuition, Billing, Payments & Financial Aid, Armstrong Student Center, Pavilion
Student Life Vignettes, Armstrong Student Center, Pavilion
  • Family sessions conclude at 8pm

8:00 - 11:00 p.m. 

Student sessions, including: 

  • Small group discussions - various locations
  • Digital tools for course registration and student involvement - Armstrong Student Center
  • Student social - Hillcrest Hall

DAY TWO: STUDENTS

6:30 - 7:00 a.m.

Check out of residence hall

Breakfast (students meet with SOULs) —Western Dining Commons

8:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Student Rotations - Students will rotate between Advising Appointment & Registration, Community Expectations & Campus Safety, and Small Group Discussions)


11:45 a.m.

Orientation Closing Session —Shriver Center, Multipurpose Room

DAY TWO: FAMILIES & GUESTS

6:45 - 7:15 a.m.

Check out of residence hall (for families who stayed on campus) 


7:15 - 7:45 a.m. 
Breakfast — Western Dining Commons OR Armstrong Student Center (Miami Ice)

8:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Parent/Family large and small group sessions - Armstrong Student Center, Wilks Theater

  • On-Campus Living at Miami OR Supporting Commuter Students
  • Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) Panel
  • Community Expectations & Campus Safety
  • Health Insurance & Immunizations
  • Parent/Family Breakout Sessions, including:

POST ORIENTATION 

After 12:15 p.m. 

Optional, but helpful things to do:

  • Get Your Miami Student ID Card (for students who didn't submit a photo in advance)
  • Open a Bank Account – First Miami Student Credit Union (Armstrong Student Center) or PNC Bank (Shriver Center). PNC and First Miami Student Credit Union are two possible banking options for students; staff will be on hand to open accounts or answer questions.
  • Shop for Miami Gear or Purchase a Miami Notebook – Shriver Center, Miami Bookstore
  • Enjoy Lunch and Shopping - Oxford's uptown destinations
