During Family Weekend, The Haven at Miami held a panel discussion of Miami students and parents.  Facilitators Miami Alum William Lammers, and Jeremiah Gardner, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, talked about their struggles and successes with substance use and recovery. Thank you to all families who joined us to talk about this important national issue. For those who were unable to attend, look for video highlights from an amazing program along with Miami student video testimonials in the next newsletter! A few key statistics that were shared at the panel:

  • Substance use is highest among college age group
  • 49% of college students engage in high-risk alcohol use and/or abuse prescription/illicit drugs
  • 23% of college students meet criteria for substance use disorder
