KC Cottrell

Academic Support

KC Cottrell is a graduate assistant serving as an Academic Coach for the Rinella Learning Center. As a coach, she provides guidance and support for students who are looking for strategies for success in college. She also teaches a section of EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success for a variety of students. Additionally, she facilitates academic workshops on a variety of topics such as test-taking strategies and study habits. KC earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University. Currently, she is working toward her master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE). She aspires to be an academic advisor upon completion of her degree.

Micalah Crafton

Micalah Crafton

Collaborative Learning Initiatives (CLI)

Micalah Crafton is a graduate assistant specializing in Collaborative Learning Initiatives for the Rinella Learning Center. Within her role, she helps collect and analyze data from the tutoring center and the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program at Miami. She also helps guide and support students who aspire to have better academic and interpersonal skills as an Academic Coach. Micalah earned her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology at the University of Tennessee in 2017. She played on the women’s D1 soccer team throughout all four years of her degree. She is now pursuing her Master of Science in Kinesiology degree with a concentration in Sports Leadership and Management, as well as completing hours towards becoming certified by the Applied Association of Sports Psychology (AASP). She hopes to continue her education in the fall of 2019 at Denver University earning her Clinical Psychology Doctorate. Micalah’s ultimate career goal is counseling and teaching at a university where her practice will specialize in helping athletes with eating disorders, transition from retiring, and performance issues. She also has a two-year-old black lab/golden retriever pup named Nash who will accompany her throughout all of her endeavors.

Jasmine Hardy

Jasmine Hardy is a graduate assistant serving as an Academic Coach for the Rinella Learning Center. Within her role as a coach, she provides guidance and support to students seeking better skills and strategies to achieve academic success and navigate other aspects of the university. She also holds responsibilities for instructing EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success and facilitating academic workshops in the fall and spring semesters. Jasmine earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami University in 2011 as a Sports Studies major with a concentration in Management and Leadership. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE). Jasmine aspires to become a student affairs professional upon the completion of her program. Her interests include educational programming, student development/success, and diversity/inclusion initiatives.

Janae Hutchins

Janae Hutchins

Academic Support

Janae Hutchins is in her second year as a graduate assistant for the Rinella Learning Center serving in academic support. Janae enjoys teaching a section of EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success as well as working one-on-one with students in academic coaching, leading study strategies workshops, and helping out around the center. Janae is currently working on her Master of Education in Transformative Education degree as well as a graduate certificate in Interactive Media Studies. In December 2015, she graduated from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA with a double Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and English with a Creative Writing focus and received her Associate of Arts degree in English from Feather River College in Quincy, CA in May 2012. Janae aspires to a career where she can help students reach their highest potential and fight for social justice within the education system. Her hobbies include traveling to theme parks to ride roller coasters and spending time with her significant other, friends, and her two adorable Siamese cats, Jin and Sun.

Kevin Lema

Kevin Lema

Collaborative Learning Initiatives (CLI)

Kevin Lema serves as a graduate assistant at the Rinella Learning Center (RLC). Under RLC’s Collaborative Learning Initiatives (CLI), Kevin assists in leading and supervising the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program. His responsibilities also include instructing EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success, facilitating academic success workshops, and providing academic coaching to students. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Neuroscience degree with a minor in Religious Studies from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2018. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) degree at Miami University. Kevin aspires to be a higher education and student affairs professional in the near future and has interests in academic advising, career/pre-professional advising, supplemental instruction, and academic/tutorial support.

Won Taek Shin

Won Taek Shin

Collaborative Learning Initiatives (CLI)

Won Taek Shin is a graduate assistant at the Rinella Learning Center (RLC). As a GA specializing in the RLC’s Collaborative Learning Initiatives, Won Taek is involved in helping to supervise the undergraduate tutoring program. He is also an instructor for an international student section of  EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success, where he helps students to succeed in their own academic journeys. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Co-major in Pre-medical Studies degree from Miami University in 2017. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health degree in two different concentrations: Exercise Science and Sports Leadership and Management. Won Taek is planning to enroll in dental school in Fall of 2019 and wishes to continue his passion for serving others by becoming a dentist in the near future.

Bao Wang

Bao Wang

Academic Support

Bao Wang is a graduate assistant in the Rinella Learning Center. His responsibilities as an Academic Coach include providing academic guidance and support to students seeking better strategies to achieve academic success, facilitating academic success workshops, and instructing EDT 110: Learning Strategies for College Success. Bao is a current master’s degree student in the Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) program at Miami University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in China. Before he came to the United States to pursue his master’s degree, he worked as a student affairs practitioner as academic coordinator of undergraduate and graduate programs and advisor of international students at SYSU for six years. He endeavors to integrate what he learns in the SAHE program with his professional experiences both in the United States and China, and he strives to become a scholarly-practitioner professional in student affairs.
