SEAL Workshops

SEAL Logo

The Associated Student Government (ASG), the Office of Student Activities and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity Sorority Life, and the Office of Community Engagement and Service have worked together to create workshops focused on helping student organizations on campus.

The workshops have three main categories: Foundation Programs, Organization Development Programs, and Roundtables. Be sure to note the date, time, and location for the workshops listed below.  

Fall 2018 Workshops

August 26 - How to Successfully Table at Information Fairs

6:00pm-7:00pm - Kreger 319

Attend this workshop for marketing ideas for your student organization's information tabling.

August 27 - How to Tackle Mega Fair and Other Information Fairs

6:00pm-7:00pm - Kreger 319

Learn how to get the most from tabling at Mega Fair and other information fairs.  

September 3 - Mandatory Spring President and Treasurer's Training

5:00-7:00pm - Armstrong Pavilion (Armstrong Student Center)  

The Annual President and Treasurer's Training serves to educate on the processes of applying for ASG Funding and how to spend money on campus, as well as inform organizations on policies and procedures for operating on campus. This workshop is required for all registered and new student organizations, as the new Red Brick Rewards program will be rolled out.

Join Miami Athletics for a conversation and brainstorming session about how your organization can use games as a platform for highlighting your goals, hosting a group outing, raising awareness about your contributions to campus and the community, and MUCH MORE !!!

Required for student organizations with desk or closed-door office space in the Armstrong Student Center this training will cover rules, regulations, opportunities and new resources for orgs in the SEAL.

September 14 - 1Miami: Programming Across Campuses

11:00am-Noon - 2078 Armstrong Student Center   

Learn about the differences of programming needs at the various campuses of Miami University. Student Activities staff from the Regional campuses will be present with some tips and tricks to reach out to all of our students and help set up your cross-campus program for success!

September 18 - Getting Your Student Organization Engaged with the Community

September 20 - What Do I Stand For? A Values-Based Leadership Workshop

6:00pm-7:30pm - 1086 Armstrong Student Center  

Individuals are often asked what they value, but rarely are they ever asked to truly define what those values mean to them. This workshop takes a closer look at personal and organizational core values, asking individuals to define their core values and to delve into their personal mission statement. If individuals are part of the same group, they will also look at their organization's mission statement and values. Sign-up required!

February 6 & February 7 - SEAL Office Space

The Armstrong Student Center has office space and desk space for a large number of student organizations. Would your organization like office space or does your organization want to keep their current office space? If you are interested in office space, you need to have a representative at one of these sessions. If you currently have space, attendance is required.

February 8 - Getting Your Organization Engaged with the Community

Noon-1pm - Student Activities Conference Room (2029A Armstrong Student Center)  

Volunteering. Community Agencies. Alternative Breaks. Philanthropy. There are so many ways for your student organization to engage with communities. Come discuss the ways your organization can have a real impact on the community. Also learn about Community Connect, a new Miami website where you can search for, manage, and track community service projects for your organization. 

February 8 - #MoveInMiami

5:30-6:30pm - 100 Benton Hall

Last year during #MoveInMiami, over 300 areas, including a significant number of student organizations, within the university raised over $1,000,000 in 20 hours and 21 minutes. Your organization can also be a part of this momentous day, by having a project page created, so that it may be featured on the #MoveInMiami website. During #MoveInMiami, your student organization's project page can be used to raise general funds for your organization or a specific project (recommended by the Office of Annual Giving).

February 13 - All About the Money!

4:30-5:30pm - 2078 Armstrong Student Center

Learn tips, tricks and timesavers to navigate Miami’s purchasing processes and gain valuable insight into fundraising and marketing. This program will show you how to effectively use Buyway and other purchasing options available to your organization. Additional topics include fundraising and marketing ideas to help your organization meet its goals. 

February 15 - SEAL Office Space

12:15-1:15pm - Wilks Theater (Armstrong Student Center) 

The Armstrong Student Center has office space and desk space for a large number of student organizations. Would your organization like office space or does your organization want keep their current office space? If you are interested in office space and did not have a member attend either the Feb. 6th or Feb. 7th workshop, then you need to have a representative at this one.  If you currently have space, attendance at one of the workshops is required.

February 20 - New Organization and Executive Training

11:30am-12:30pm - 2078 Armstrong Student Center

February 21 - Recreation Organizations Roundtable

February 22 - Event Planning 101

Noon-1:00pm - 2078 Armstrong Student Center 

Does your organization want to plan more events on campus? This SEAL Workshop will go through the proper timeline for planning and executing an event from start to finish! This will include handouts and checklists - so you never panic about having enough time to plan and promote your events!

February 27 - Working with Your Advisor

11:30am-12:30pm - 1066 Armstrong Student Center  

Communication. Networking. Support. The relationship an advisor has with your organization can be the difference between success and failure. Do you know who your advisor is? Does your advisor know what you need? We'll explore the best ways to work with your advisors, how a working relationship between organization and advisor can help move you forward, and ways to better your relationship if it's struggling or non-existent.

March 1 - Crisis Management for Student Organizations

Noon-1:00pm - 1082 Armstrong Student Center  

Do you have a crisis management plan for your organization? Are you ready to deal with any situation that may come your way? This workshop will provide you with tools and resources that will help you navigate difficult situations within your organization.

March 6 - Reserving Space on Campus

11:30am-12:30pm - 1066 Armstrong Student Center  

Your event should be in the Fritz Pavilion in Armstrong. No, wait - the Heritage Room in Shriver may be better? Or...it could be in Taylor Auditorium? How do you reserve space on campus? Come find out all the tips and tricks for reserving space on campus.

March 8 - Service Organizations Roundtable

Do you have a signature event in the Fall that would qualify for Late Night Funding? Or, are you looking to plan a signature event? Late Night has gotten louder later, and you could qualify for up to $4000 in funding! Stop by this SEAL Workshop to learn how.

The ODA Seal Workshop will engage student leaders in identifying, defining, and understanding biases and stereotypes. Student leaders will reflect on how diversity and inclusion efforts benefit and affect their student organization. Students will learn about resources available to their student organization pertaining to diversity and inclusion efforts through the Office of Diversity Affairs: Cultural Center, Women*s Center, LGBTQ* Center.

Event planning 101 covered the proper timeline to planning events. This SEAL Workshop will cover your resources across campus, unique promotion ideas and some time to share experiences you have had with successful events sponsored by your organization and some challenges your organization faces.
