Stress Less Week 2017

The Student Counseling Service and the Suicide Prevention Team are proud to sponsor Stress Less Week.  Our goal is to help students, staff, and faculty increase awareness of ways to manage stress and anxiety and to improve emotional health of those in our campus community.  Stress Less Week will be held from April 3-9, 2017 and includes the activities listed below.

Monday, April 3:

  • Cardio Blast (free fitness class): 6:45 - 7:30 pm, Rec Center Room A

Tuesday, April 4:

  • Pilates 12:10-1:00, Phillips 115
  • Yoga 5:30-6:30pm, McGuffey 322
  • Pilates (free fitness class): 6:45 - 7:30 pm, Rec Center Room B **Please bring a yoga mat if one is available to you.  If you do not have a mat, they will be provided as part of Stress Less Week.

Wednesday, April 5:

  • Yoga 12:10-12:55pm, Phillips Hall 33 
  • Circle of Sound Drum Session, 1:30-3:00, Armstrong Student Center, Marcum South Court (rain location - Shade Stage) Open to all Miami students, faculty and staff.

Did you know drumming reduces tension, anxiety and stress? Join Liz Wu, certified Health Rhythms musician, for a stress less jam session. Drums and instruments will be provided, or bring your own. Take a mid-week stress break, join the jam, or just listen in. No drumming experience needed.  All are welcome.  Just drop in!

Thursday, April 6:

STRESS LESS DAY

12:00-1:00pm- Songs to De-stress!

  • Join us for a drop in session between the hours of 12-1. There will be music, healthy snacks, and an opportunity to move, sit, or lie down while listening to music designed to decrease your stress. Music for this session was chosen by Miami students from Dr. Klatt’s mindfulness and meaning courses. The songs have been useful tools for students who are trying to maintain a healthy balance in school, life, and work. The play list will be shared as well.  Location: Mindfulness and Contemplative Inquiry Center, 128 McGuffey Hall

4:00-6:30pm- Armstrong Pavilion A/B          

  • Dog therapy
  • Free massages
  • Cornhole and other activities from the Outdoor Pursuit Center (Armstrong outdoor patio)
  • Stress management resources
  • Suicide prevention resources and information on how to help friends in distress
  • Mental health treatment referral information
  • Giveaways (Graeter’s gift cards, Rapid Fire Pizza coupons)
  • Messages of Hope table- write supportive messages to friends coping with mental health issues
  • Coloring books for adults
  • Chinese Tea Ceremony- hosted by the Confucius Institute.  Demonstration using traditional chinaware, free samples of hot tea, and teaching how to drink tea mindfully.
  • Gratitude table- write letters of gratitude to those you care about & watch a gratitude video
  • Photo frame booth
  • Coping Card table
