Meet the Staff

Eric Buller - DirectorDr. Eric Buller, Director

Eric was appointed Director in October 2011. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and served 20 years in the U.S. Army. Prior to arrival at Miami, he taught for three years on the faculty at West Point and also in the Army ROTC at East Carolina University where he authored a leadership development framework for the University. Eric earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the College of William and Mary and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. Eric advises the Student Senate, the Miami Circle of ODK and Beta Theta Pi.  He also coaches the Miami Boxing Club and is the President of the National Collegiate Boxing Association.  Finally, Eric is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and enjoys helping others experience "the life well lived" through their strengths.

Courtney Wallace Bio PictureCourtney Wallace, Assistant Director

Courtney started in the Wilks Leadership Institute in June 2014 as the Leadership Programs Coordinator. She completed her B.A. in Art History and Studio Art and an M.Ed in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at James Madison, Courtney worked in several Student Affairs areas including Community Service-Learning, Leadership, Judicial Affairs, Orientation, and Admissions. Originally from Voorhees, New Jersey, Courtney is excited to be a part of the Miami family and to work in Wilks. Currently, Courtney serves as the Assistant Director where she oversees staff development, assessment, supervising graduate and undergraduate student staff, and leads programmng teams within the Institute. Courtney is happy to be at Miami and support leadership across campus!

Peter Wilkinson - Graduate AssistantPeter Wilkinson, Graduate Assistant

Peter is the Graduate Assistant in the Wilks Leadership Institute beginning in the Fall of 2017.  Before coming to Miami University and Wilks, Peter graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2015 with a B.S. in Environmental Conservation Studies.  While he was a student at UNH, Peter served as President of two student organizations, one of which he created to increase school pride across campus, and worked in Orientation and in Residential Life as a Resident Assistant.  He then worked as a Residence Hall Director at UNH for two years and served as the Staff Coordinator for the June First-Year Orientation Program during that time.  Peter assists in facilitating the U-Lead Program and helps plan the Perlmutter Leadership Conference.  He also supervises Wilks undergraduate student employees, advises the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success, and supports student leaders across campus in any way he can.  Peter is proud to be a Miami Redhawk, and to help students discover their strengths while exploring their passions through leadership!

Student Leadership Coordinators (undergraduate student employees)

Steven Bower - Student Leadership CoordinatorSteven Bower

Steven is a junior at Miami and is a Software Engineering major. This year is Steven’s second working with the Wilks team as a Student Leadership Coordinator. At Miami he is the National Communications Coordinator for the Residence Hall Association (RHA), is in the Electronics and Computing Service Scholars, was a Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) for the summer of 2016, and participates in Kode2Learn where he teaches local elementary students computer science skills. For the 2016-2017 school year Steven returned to live with the Electronics and Computing Service Scholars where he served as a mentor for the incoming first-year students in the community. Steven is excited to work the Wilks staff and is eager to learn more about himself and what it means to be a leader while helping other students, as well!

Madeline Burke - Student Leadership CoordinatorMadeline Burke

Madeline Burke is a senior Zoology major with minors in Spanish, Neuroscience, and Management & Leadership. She will graduate in May 2018 and plans to attend veterinary school after graduation. This will be her first year working with the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. Prior to this year, Madeline spent two years working as a Resident Assistant in both the Sorority and Social Justice Scholars LLCs and served as the 4 Paws for Ability Miami Treasurer. On campus, Madeline is very involved as the Webmaster of Pre-Vet Club, a member of the OESCR University Appeals Board, an Academic Senator in Student Senate, an active member of Alpha Delta Pi, and a Mock Interviewer in the Center for Career Exploration and Success. Madeline is very excited to focus on her leadership skills in the coming year with Wilks!

Rachel Cleveland - Student Leadership CoordinatorRachel Cleveland

Rachel is a sophomore Supply Chain Management and Political Science double major and Spanish minor at Miami from Brainerd, Minnesota. This will be her first year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. On campus, Rachel serves as a campus tour guide and is a member of Phi Chi Theta, a professional business fraternity. Additionally, during the 2017-2018 school year, Rachel will be living in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community. She is eager to work in the institute growing her leadership skills and knowledge while helping others define their own brand of leadership.

Blake Cortez - Student Leadership CoordinatorBlake Cortez

Blake is a juinor Marketing major with minors in Business Analytics and Spanish at Miami. This will be Blake’s second year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute, and he is ecstatic for the opportunity to help coordinate the Lessons in Leadership series and the Leadership Lecture in the spring for the Miami Community. Blake also has the responsibility of coordinating Wilks’ various social media outlets. In his free time, he is involved with Pi Sigma Epsilon (a professional business fraternity), as well as a campus tour guide. During the 2016-2017 school year, Blake lived in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community. Blake is looking forward to developing not only his leadership skills, but the skills of other Miami students this year!

Grace Hawkins - Student Leadership CoordinatorGrace Hawkins

Grace Hawkins is a Psychology and Nutrition Dietetics double major at Miami, and will graduate in May of 2018. She hopes to become a Registered Dietitian after completing a dietetic internship upon graduation. Afterwards, she would like to enroll in a Master's program for Clinical Psychology. She wants to use this gained knowledge in order to counsel for those with eating disorders and other mental illnesses. This is her first year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute. Grace is a member of the Zeta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a Service Fraternity. Grace is involved in the organization Active Minds, which aims to reduce the stigma of mental illness on college campuses.

Cassidy Hemm - Student Leadership CoordinatorCassidy Hemm

Cassidy is a sophomore from Piqua, Ohio. This will be her first year working with the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. Cassidy's first experience with Wilks was through the U-Lead Program and she is excited to help organize more similar programs as a Student Coordinator. On campus, Cassidy is an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi, a social sorority, the Miami University Student Foundation, and serves as the logistics co-chair of Charter Day Ball. During the 2017-18 school year she will be living in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community. Cassidy is excited to continue promoting the growth of leadership across campus!

Jose Jacobo - Student Leadership CoordinatorJose Jacobo

Jose is a senior Psychology major. The 2017-2018 academic year will be Jose's third year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute, and he's excited to continue his work in the office. He will help coordinate four Wilks Signature Workshops over the course of the school year.  At Miami, Jose is actively involved in the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, conducts research within the Psychology department, and has participated in the Scholar Leader LLC during the 2015-2016 school year. Jose studied abroad in Luxembourg during the summer of 2015 and served as a Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) last summer welcoming Miami’s Class of 2020.

Kayla Malaney - Student Leadership CoordinatorKayla Malaney

Kayla Malaney is a sophomore Special Education major and Disability Studies minor at Miami. This will be her first year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. On campus, Kayla is an Awareness Committee co-chair of the organization Best Buddies and serves as the I am Miami and Diversity Affairs Council liaison for the Student Council for Exceptional Children. She will also be a member of the Wilks Leadership Challenge Living Learning Community during the 2017-2018 school year. Kayla looks forward to working at Wilks and teaching others about leadership.
