Student Leadership Coordinator Position (Student Employment)

The Harry T. Wilks Leadership Institute is the hub for leadership development in the Division of Student Affairs and plays a central role in creating a culture of leadership at Miami University. The Institute develops ethical and transformational leadership in Miami University students to ensure graduates are prepared and inspired to serve and lead beyond the university.

Student Leadership Coordinators (SLCs) are invaluable undergraduate student staff members. They aid in the planning and coordination of Wilks’ many programs and opportunities. To apply for this position, please complete an application on Miami’s HireTouch application system.

Student Leadership Coordinator (SLC) Qualifications

The SLC must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Miami University during the 2017-2018 academic year with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. The SLC must be in good disciplinary and academic standing with Miami University throughout the entire term of employment.* Qualified applicants will have demonstrated:

  • Clifton Strengths for Students experience preferred (ie. Attendance to Perlmutter Leadership Conference and/or Strengths workshops)

Student Leadership Coordinator (SLC) Expectations

  • Build community and develop rapport among the team of SLC staff members

General Wilks Responsibilities

  • Serve as a representative of the Wilks Leadership Institute at campus and community events.
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members as related to specific projects
  • Coordinate logistical responsibilities for Wilks curricular/co-curricular programming as assigned (i.e. reservations of rooms, ordering food, design of advertising materials, recruiting participants, reviewing applications, meeting with presenters, etc.)
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Wilks Leadership Institute’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts
  • Assess and provide written reports for the programs supported

Terms of Employment

This SLC role is a one-semester position with opportunities to continue employment for additional academic years. Each SLC staff member will be assigned to multiple project areas within the office and can expect to work approximately 8-12 hours per week in the Wilks Leadership Institute (109 Warfield Hall). These hours will be determined by the amount of work to be done and the SLC’s academic course schedule. The SLC position will start on January 29, 2017.


New SLC staff are paid at a rate of $8.35/hour for the 2018 Spring Semester.
