Meet the Staff

Eric Buller - DirectorDr. Eric Buller, Director

Eric was appointed Director in October 2011. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and served 20 years in the U.S. Army. Prior to arrival at Miami, he taught for three years on the faculty at West Point and also in the Army ROTC at East Carolina University where he authored a leadership development framework for the University. Eric earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the College of William and Mary and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. Eric advises the Student Senate, the Miami Circle of ODK and Beta Theta Pi. He also coaches the Miami Boxing Club and is the President of the National Collegiate Boxing Association. Finally, Eric is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and enjoys helping others experience "the life well lived" through their strengths.

Courtney Wallace Bio PictureCourtney Wallace, Assistant Director

Courtney started in the Wilks Leadership Institute in June 2014 as the Leadership Programs Coordinator. She completed her B.A. in Art History and Studio Art and an M.Ed in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at James Madison, Courtney worked in several Student Affairs areas including Community Service-Learning, Leadership, Judicial Affairs, Orientation, and Admissions. Originally from Voorhees, New Jersey, Courtney is excited to be a part of the Miami family and to work in Wilks. Currently, Courtney serves as the Assistant Director where she oversees staff development, assessment, supervising graduate and undergraduate student staff, and leads programmng teams within the Institute. Courtney is happy to be at Miami and support leadership across campus!

Peter Wilkinson - Graduate AssistantPeter Wilkinson, Graduate Assistant

Peter is the Graduate Assistant in the Wilks Leadership Institute beginning in the Fall of 2017. Before coming to Miami University and Wilks, Peter graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2015 with a B.S. in Environmental Conservation Studies. While he was a student at UNH, Peter served as President of two student organizations, one of which he created to increase school pride across campus, and worked in Orientation and in Residential Life as a Resident Assistant. He then worked as a Residence Hall Director at UNH for two years and served as the Staff Coordinator for the June First-Year Orientation Program during that time. Peter assists in facilitating the U-Lead Program and helps plan the Perlmutter Leadership Conference. He also supervises Wilks undergraduate student employees, advises the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success, and supports student leaders across campus in any way he can. Peter is proud to be a Miami Redhawk, and to help students discover their strengths while exploring their passions through leadership!

Student Leadership Coordinators (undergraduate student employees)

Emily Ashner

Emily is a sophomore Psychology major with a Neuroscience co-major. This will be her first year working at the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. Emily's first experience with Wilks was through the Leadership Certificate Program. On campus, she is involved in Alpha Chi Omega- a social sorority, Wish Upon a Star, and MEDLife. She also conducts research within the Psychology department and hopes to use this knowledge to enroll in a Neuroscience Ph.D. program in the future. Emily is excited to begin working at Wilks and help develop leadership at Miami!

Rachel Cleveland - Student Leadership CoordinatorRachel Cleveland

Rachel is a junior Supply Chain Management and Political Science double major and Spanish minor at Miami from Brainerd, Minnesota. This will be her second year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. On campus, Rachel serves as a campus tour guide. Additionally, during the 2017-2018 school year, Rachel will be lived in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community. She is eager to continue working in the institute growing her leadership skills and knowledge while helping others define their own brand of leadership.

Emily Collins

Emily Collins is a senior Strategic Communication and Sociology major with a minor in Disability Studies. She will graduate in May 2019 with plans to attend graduate school for Student Affairs. This is the first time Emily will be working in the Wilks Leadership Institute. In her career at Miami thus far, Emily has been involved with Residence Life, Residence Hall Association, Autism Speaks, National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and several mental health awareness organizations. Emily currently serves as the NRHH President. She is thrilled to focus on leadership skills and eager to facilitate Wilks Leadership events to meet other students.

Cassidy Hemm - Student Leadership CoordinatorCassidy Hemm

Cassidy is a junior from Piqua, Ohio. This is her second year working with the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. Cassidy's first experience with Wilks was through the U-Lead Program and she is excited to help organize more similar programs as a Student Coordinator. On campus, Cassidy is an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi, a social sorority, the Miami University Student Foundation, and serves as the logistics co-chair of Charter Day Ball. During the 2017-18 school year, she lived in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community. Cassidy is excited to continue promoting the growth of leadership across campus!

Kayla Malaney - Student Leadership CoordinatorKayla Malaney

Kayla Malaney is a sophomore Special Education major and Disability Studies minor at Miami. This will be her first year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. On campus, Kayla is an Awareness Committee co-chair of the organization Best Buddies and serves as the I am Miami and Diversity Affairs Council liaison for the Student Council for Exceptional Children. She will also be a member of the Wilks Leadership Challenge Living Learning Community during the 2017-2018 school year. Kayla looks forward to working at Wilks and teaching others about leadership.

Tyler Milliren

Tyler is a sophomore from Westerville, Ohio. This will be his first year working at Wilks Leadership Institute, however, he has been involved in U-Lead 2017 and the Leadership Certificate Program and highly recommends both programs. Tyler has been a leader in the Miami University community through Community Leadership Team, National Residence Hall Honorary, and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is excited to further develop his leadership styles and help guide students through the journey of developing their own.

Jordan PerryJordan Perry

Jordan is a senior Biology major with a co-major in Neuroscience and a minor in Spanish. This is her second year working in the Wilks Leadership Institute as a Student Leadership Coordinator. Jordan has been involved with Wilks’ programs as a Scholar Leader during the 2016-17 school year. On campus, Jordan spends her time coordinating service projects for the Zeta Delta chapter of Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity. She also is involved with pedagogical research and is an undergraduate discussion leader in the Department of Psychology. Jordan is very excited to help bring more leadership development opportunities to students at Miami University!

Jessica von Zastrow

Jessica is a sophomore economics and political science major from Columbus, Ohio. On campus, she is currently an active member of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity, president of Women in Social Entrepreneurship, and is a designer for Miami University Fashion & Design. She is excited to be living in the Scholar Leader Living Learning Community during the 2018-2019 school year. This will be Jessica's first year working for the Wilks Leadership Institute and she is looking forward to working with a group of passionate colleagues and growing as a leader herself.
