Mission and Core Commitments

Our Mission

The Miami University Women*s Center advances women's full participation and success through activities that support and advocate for women, engage the campus community with women's and gender issues, and foster women's personal and professional development and empowerment.

More specifically, the Women*s Center offers leadership opportunities through internships, connections to other campus and community resources and groups, and educational programs and events, including programming for male-identified students. The Center provides quiet study and gathering space where all are welcome. The Women*s Center works closely with LGBTQ* Services and the Office of Diversity Affairs to support students with marginalized identities and to enhance all students' experiences with and appreciation of diversity and inclusion.

Our Core Commitments

  • Create a welcoming space for all identities and expressions
  • Facilitate connections among individuals and groups
  • Challenge gender stereotypes and barriers to gender equity
  • Encourage critical analysis of gender through a social justice lens
  • Celebrate achievements for gender equity
  • Embody diversity and inclusion in all programs and services

In our work we try to be "REAL" - using values of Respect, Empowerment, Anti-oppression, and Learning in our interactions with others.

"Miami's Women*s Center is so much more than a physical space.  It is a symbolic space which marks the importance of women and women's issues on campus.  It is a psychic space, a place where we can learn, reflect and be renewed.  It is a social space, where together we discover our passions, support one another, and work collaboratively to change the university and the world."
