Poetic Disruption Spoken Word Performance

Thursday, April 13, 8:00 pm, Pearson 128

What role can men play in ending sexual assault at Miami? How might students use their voices to support victim-survivors? Join us on Thursday, April 13 at 8:00 pm in Pearson 128 for Poetic Disruption: Exploring Masculinity, Gender Violence, and Solidarity through Spoken Word. In conjunction with It’s On Us Week at Miami University, this spoken word event highlights two award-winning slam poetry artists: 'Guante' and Wilson Okello. Known for their hard-hitting and honest perspectives on social justice, both 'Guante' and Okello use artistic expression as tools for disrupting traditional notions of masculinity. From viral YouTube videos on responding to the phrase ‘Man Up” to inspiring change on the TED stage, these performers come to Miami with prophetic wisdom about how men should work as allies for gender equity. Co-sponsored by the Miami Masculinities Committee, MARS, Women's Center, and Office of Student Wellness with support from Late Night Miami.
