What is the difference between a cat and a comma? One has claws at the end of its paws, and one is a pause at the end of a clause.

No Charge

In order to make it easier for the campus community to use quality images produced by our area, UCM has eliminated charges for photography and video production services needed for external promotion and publications that are tied to university brand and mission enhancement.

The types of photographs and video that are considered priority under the no-fee service tied to include those for the president's office, press conferences, board of trustees, commencement, publicity, broad-use print publications (marketing brochures, The Miamian, recruitment material), top-tier web pages, events of significant news value, professional headshots of faculty and staff, and special projects, such as books, slideshows, calendars, and other high end visual material.

We also provide images accessible to the entire Miami campus community via our WebDAM system, which you can use for your electronic and print material.

Limited or Fee-Based

Because of the increased demand for services and small staff size, we do have to limit free professional photography and video production services, such as internal types of activities and smaller events, departmental retirement receptions, inter-office celebrations, recognition banquets, or other informal or non-university events. We also charge for long-term or special ongoing projects on a contract basis to offset expenses, which we invest in maintaining equipment.

Alternative Options

We do realize internal events are often important to campus areas, and we recommend the following alternatives when we are unable to cover them:

  • We can occasionally arrange student photographers or videographers to cover internal events when available
  • If students are unavailable or if you prefer a professional, we can provide you with a list of reputable freelance professionals at a reasonable rate
  • We can make available to you, on loan, a "point and shoot" digital camera so you can assign someone from your department to take photographs or video. Point and shoot cameras offer quality images that can be easily loaded into your web pages or newsletters. Some departments purchase their own camera, particularly for web images, but if you do not have one, you can sign one out from our office.

We try to accommodate as many requests for professional services as possible, and schedule based on first-come, first-served basis.

We reserve the right to request proof of publication usage and photograph credits should be attributed to images used by external news outlets (for example, Image provided by Miami University Photo with photographer's name).

We are very happy to be able to provide high quality photography for Miami with no hourly photographic rate, and look forward to working with you!
