Obtaining a License
There are multiple forms of license available with Miami University, depending on the type of product, how it is manufactured and whether you are in-state.
- Standard License—allows you to produce products for resale, including, but not limited to, wholesale and retail.
- Internal Usage License—allows you to produce products intended to be sold directly to the university that are not for resale. This does not include sales to the University Bookstore. This license only applies when items of internal usage are exempt from royalties. Most internal usage license holders are also required to hold a standard license.
- In-State License—allows you to produce products for resale, including, but not limited to, wholesale and retail. Your company is applying for a license for one school only and is located in the same state as that school.
- Crafter’s License—is available to individuals who hand make items at home and do not intend to sell these items wholesale to retail stores, but instead sell their hand crafted items at fairs, farmers markets, and online (i.e. etsy.com).
