Managing Your Website

Cascade Server is the content management system (CMS) used by Miami University to help web editors across campus easily update their websites. The campus-wide migration project is being rolled out in phases. You will be notified when your department or office is scheduled to be migrated to the new system. You can sign up for training after your department has been scheduled for migration. In the meantime, you can get your current site ready for migration and learn more about the CMS.

These pages provide an overview of the basics for web page creation and editing as well as referencing existing external components for these page types using the Cascade Server CMS for Miami University's website located at

Following Naming Conventions

System Names are always lower-case-no-space, using hyphens to separate words, with no punctuation or special characters.

Be sure to assign meaningful, descriptive names to all folders and files.

Copying Content

Do not copy directly from Word. Copy your text into a simple text editor (like TextEdit or Notepad) before pasting into the CMS. You will then need to apply the appropriate formatting.

Uploading Images and Files

Do not fill out any fields, just browse for the file and click Submit at the bottom of the page.

Pages are not "live" (viewable by the public) until they are published to the Live Site. The Test Site is for you to view your pages before they go live.

Organizing Your Assets

Locate your office/department folder in the asset tree:

  • Images and documents are stored in the _files folder.
  • Widgets are stored in the _widgets folder
  • Web pages are stored under designated folders.
