Creating Widgets

  • Widgets are modular units that are created independently (unlike page elements like the feature box or inline box).
  • A widget can be added to multiple pages.
  • Widgets are stored in the CMS under the "_widgets" folder and then according to widget type and department.

To create a new widget:

In the _widgets folder at the top of the asset tree, choose your site folder (or create a new folder). Next:

-Click "New" in the Blue Task Bar
-Click "Widgets"
-Choose the type of widget that you want to create.

To add or delete a widget on a page:

Attach a widget to a page as a Left Column Widget, a Right Column Widget, or on a Widget Row.

Banner Image Banks»

A banner image bank sits at the top of a page. It displays one or more pictures that can rotate in random order when page is refreshed or cycle through the images in a slideshow.

Rich Text »

A rich text widget is a free-form module. You can add images, links, and/or text. You can also embed closed-captioned YouTube videos if you know HTML.

SPIF Item »

A SPIF is a Special Interest feature. It can be a small picture and teaser that links to a full story. It can also be an stand alone image or fact.

A SPIF items must be created and then added to a SPIF Bank.  It cannot be added directly to a web page as an item.

A SPIF (Special Interest Feature) bank can be created as a teaser to link to a different page with the full story.  A SPIF item must be created first and then added to a SPIF bank.  Several SPIF items can be added to one bank.

RSS Feed »

The RSS Feed widget lets you pull snippets of content from other websites into your site. This content can come from calendars, news sites, or blogs.

Tabs »

A tabs widget allows you to have multiple tabs across a page, fitting more content into an area. Each tab is an independent rich-text widget.

Twidget »

A twidget is a twitter widget. You can use this widget to display your twitter feed.
