Creating a Tabs Widget

Get Started

Creating a Tabs Widget involves three basic steps:

  1. Create Rich Text Widgets, one for each tab you need. Each Rich Text Widget will be the contents of one tab.
  2. Create a Tabs Widget, which will contain each of the Rich Text Widgets.
  3. Insert your Tabs Widget into a page, in a Widget Row

Note that, unlike a SPIF, a Tabs widget will vary in height from tab-to-tab, depending upon how much content the tab has (see example at bottom of page).

Create Rich Text Widgets

For each individual tab in your tabs widget you will need one Rich Text widget. These are the contents of your tabs. If you need instructions on how to create the Rich Text Widgets, read this article first.

Create Tabs Widgets

Go to _widgets/YOUR FOLDER/widget-tabs.

Note: If you don't see a folder widget-tabs, you can create one. Highlight _widgets/Your Folder, then go to New/Default/Folder. Give it a system name of "widget-tabs" and click Submit to save it in the system.

With the widgets-tabs folder highlighted, click New » Widgets » Widget Tabs.

Create Tabs Dialog box, as described in the following text.
  1. Change:
    • System name (use lower case, no spaces)
    • Display name
    • Title
  2. Add Additional Tabs: Click the green plus icon to add more or the red minus icon to remove them. Use the up/down arrows to change the order in which the tabs appear.
  3. Add Tab Labels: Give each tab a short but descriptive label.
  4. Add Rich Text Widgets.
  5. Click on Submit to save your work.
  6. Publish (or send the request to publish). Widgets must be published separately from your page.
  7. Your widget is now ready to add to your web page.
