What We Do
The Office of University Communications and Marketing is a full-service, in-house marketing and communications resource for the campus, where an integrated team of professionals provide up-to-date expertise and skills in consulting, multimedia storytelling, marketing research, creative design, social media, electronic and digital communications, web design and standards support, and writing for news, features, and publications. University Marketing and Creative Services
This full-service marketing operation helps campus clients recruit students and builds relationships with alumni, donors, parents, legislators, and other external audiences. In addition to student recruitment, primary reponsibilities include general information materials required for the operation of the University and production of the chief printed materials for the Office of the President and vice-presidential divisions.
University News and Communications
University News and Communications is the university's primary news source and point of contact for reporters. We serve the university by communicating Miami's mission using various media and share enlightening stories about our students, faculty, employees, and alumni. We pride ourselves on providing internal and external audiences with the latest in Miami news and events. We also offer a variety of public relations, communications resources, and administrative information for members of the Miami community.
As managers of Miami University's public-facing website, Web Communications assumes responsibility for its overall 'look and feel,' while establishing goals and standards for graphics, photography, and content. Web Communications also works collaboratively to establish web strategy and priorities based on university goals, and directs the research, analysis, and advancement of new media technologies.
Photography and video production play a key role in the development and projection of the University's image and in the delivery of its key messages. To increase public awareness and understanding of Miami University, its programs, and the accomplishments of its students, faculty, and staff, our photographers and cinematographer provide high-quality images for use in news releases, publications, and the university's website for the campus community, the media, and the general public. Our social media specialist uses social media as a tool for engaging with the Miami community while strengthening Miami University’s brand, and aligning communication efforts among university divisions. The goal is to share exciting and relevant information to keep prospective students, current students, and alumni up to date on Miami University happenings.
Miamian, Miami University's alumni magazine, highlights alumni, student, faculty, and staff involvement with the University, updating readers on campus news and events, arts, sports, and alumni news. Miami's primary communication link with alumni and close friends of the University, the magazine sets out to inform and entertain while generating a sense of knowledge and involvement with Miami University. Miamian is published four times a year.
External communications supports Miami’s advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels by cultivating stronger relationships with community leaders, promoting Miami’s undergraduate research initiatives, and increasing public awareness of our Ohio Centers of Excellence such as the Scripps GerontologyCenter. The primary role is to be a liaison for the President’s Office, Finance and Business Services Office, Office of Institutional Relations, Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship, the Alumni Association, and other departments across campus. This individual also spearheads the campus-wide communication council.
Trademarks & Licensing
This office regulates the commercial use of the University's name and all identifying marks, both on and off campus, to ensure the protection of Miami’s excellent reputation and maintain high standards of use. For more information, see Trademarks & Licensing.
