Annual Mahatma Gandhi Birthday Lecture

This year's program will be held via Zoom and feature Dr. Sumit Ganguly, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. Dr. Ganguly is a Miami alumni, earning his M.A. in Political Science in 1978.

Professor Ganguly holds the Rabindranath Tagore Chair in Indian Cultures and Civilizations at Indiana University, Bloomington. For more on his publications and honors, please see his full profile.

The talk will include time for questions and answers with the audience.

This year's program will be held via Zoom and feature Professor Vinay Lal. Dr. Lal is a historian of India and is currently a Professor of History & Asian American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The talk will include time for questions and answers with the audience.

Rev James Morris Lawson Jr. is a Gandhian and a colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr who called him as “the leading theorist of nonviolence in the world.” He is a tactician of non-violence in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. At age 93 he continues to be active to confront various forms of injustices. The presentation will include a short lecture by Rev. Lawson.
