Message from the dean:
Greetings,
As Thanksgiving approaches there is so much to be grateful for here at Miami University. It seems to me that our graduates, faculty, and staff are receiving more national recognition than ever before. Several of the most recent awards are detailed in this newsletter.
Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out my pride in our recent NCATE accreditation review. We couldn't be more pleased with the praise heaped on our educator preparation programs by the nine-member national review team. Our emphasis on multidisciplinary curriculum, cross-departmental functioning and community partnerships is paying off not only in such external recognition, but in more opportunities for our students.
We've faced financial challenges, but we've been proactive in dealing with them. For example, we embarked on a pilot effort in spring 2008 to attract more of the kinds of students we want by communicating directly with prospective students and their parents about the advantages of a Miami education. The result was an increase in enrollment, and aspects of the project we piloted are now being adopted by Miami's other academic divisions.
Best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving,
Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D. Dean and Professor of Foreign Language Education
