The Ogden Hall wall is one popular Miami legend that can be safely laid to rest. It arose from a stipulation allegedly made in a bequest to the University by wealthy Cincinnatian Laura Ogden. Her will directed that the bequest be used to construct a mens' dormitory in memory of her brother, and it supposedly also demanded that a wall be constructed around the new structure to keep it private. After Ogden Hall was built, it was rumored that the University had in fact built the wall, only beneath the ground. In reality, the so-called Ogden Wall is only the foundation of the old Miami gymnasium. The gymnasium, which no longer stands, had originally occupied the site of Ogden Hall, but it had to be moved to a new location to accommodate another stipulation of Laura Ogden's bequest.
