12-15-16 Weekly Three
By the Numbers
Winter Commencement - At tomorrow’s 3:00 p.m. ceremony in Millett, the university will award 1,164 degrees to Miami students including 73 Associates, 768 Bachelor’s, 307 Master’s and 16 Doctorates.
Winter Term -
- Currently, 5,013 students are registered for 513 course sections taught by 332 faculty
- 34% of those courses will be offered on Miami’s campuses, while 58% are online or hybrid courses
- 742 students are participating in 45 study abroad/study away opportunities led by 71 faculty and staff members.
Submitting Grades - Because the university will be closed over the holidays and there is a quick start to the winter term when we return, submitting your grades by the published deadline is critically important. Not doing so could negatively impact a student’s enrollment for winter or spring term, scholarship and student loan eligibility, and employment or post-secondary enrollment for students graduating in December. Thank you for submitting your grades on time.
- Web grading will remain open until 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 20. Grading will then close and the Registrar’s Office staff will begin processing so that grades are viewable to students on Thursday, December 22.
- Incomplete Grades – Incomplete grades may be assigned only in instances where the instructor and student have agreed upon a course of action for completion of the work. If a student stopped attending or never attended but did not drop the course, a grade of incomplete is not appropriate.
For assistance with web grading, contact the Office of the University Registrar by phone at 513-529-8703 during business hours or by email (registrar@miamioh.edu) at any time. For assistance with Two-Factor authentication, contact IT Services Support Desk at 513-529-7900 during business hours or by email (ITHelp@miamioh.edu) at any time.
Faculty 180 - Starting in 2014, Jim Oris, Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School with the associate deans from all academic divisions conducted an assessment of how annual activity reports are submitted by faculty. This led to the development and implementation of a university-wide template for annual activity reports and the recommendation to adopt an electronic database reporting system. In 2015, Faculty180, a product offered by Data180, was selected.
The rationale and implementation plan were shared at an Academic Administrator’s Breakfast in Spring, 2016, with all Department Chairs this September/October and with University Senate on November 21, 2016. Training of administrators is taking place this month (December). Please visit the Provost's website for additional information and the list of departments involved in Phase I of the implementation.
Thank you for another productive and impactful semester. I wish you a peaceful, happy winter break, safe travels, and a Happy New Year.
