ROTC cadets stand at attention

Founded in 1926, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a college program offered at more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the United States that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Military. In exchange for a paid college education and a guaranteed post-college career, cadets commit to serve in the Military after graduation.

Miami hosts ROTC opportunities for students interested in the Air Force and Navy. Xavier University Army ROTC in Cincinnati serves as the host program for Miami ROTC Army cadets.

Air Force ROTC

Air Force ROTC offers a scholarship program for highly qualified high school seniors as well as students already in college who are interested in commissioning as Air Force officers. Many scholarships pay full tuition, money for books, and a monthly tax-free stipend. AFROTC's in-college scholarship selection occurs during the freshman and sophomore years. High school seniors apply online by Dec. 1. AFROTC develops quality leaders for the Air Force through a comprehensive training program focused on building leadership, management, and officership skills both in and out of the classroom. Students who complete the AFROTC program commission as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force with a challenging career specialty like pilot, navigator, air battle manager, intelligence, maintenance, security forces, space and missiles, finance, doctor, nurse, manpower and personnel, or public affairs. For additional scholarship information or to submit an application, visit U.S. Air Force ROTC. For more information on Miami's program, visit USAF Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment 640 at Miami University.

Naval ROTC

As the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the NROTC Scholarship Program fills a vital need in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps. Full-ride scholarships, book money, a stipend, room and board, and commissioning opportunities are available for both prospective freshmen as well as current Miami students. Opportunities are available in aviation, submarines, surface ships, special warfare, medicine, and many Marine specialties. For more information, visit Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Miami University.

Xavier University Army ROTC is the host program for Miami Army ROTC cadets. Cadets attend their academic classes at Miami University and fulfill their military science duties at the Xavier campus in Cincinnati. Xavier Army ROTC is one of the most accomplished ROTC units in the nation being awarded the Douglas Macarthur award seven times since 1991. More than 90% of our scholarship winners graduate and commission as second lieutenants in four years. Along with being one of the nation's top Army ROTC programs, we offer four-year, three-year, and two-year scholarships that cover full-tuition and fees along with $1,200 annually for books and a monthly stipend dependent on the academic class of the cadet ($300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors). The Simultaneous Membership Program is also a great opportunity for those students already in or thinking about the National Guard or the United States Army Reserves. If you have any questions, please contact Major Steve Harmon, the scholarship and admissions officer. He is on Miami's campus every Wednesday in room 62, Millett Hall.
