Priya Mehta ’13

Diplomacy and Global Politics Major
History Minor

As a pre-law student in a liberal arts program, you might expect that Priya Mehta spent most of her time at Miami buried in books. But that is far from the case.

Her junior year, Priya studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. She’s a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity at Miami, and she participated in Miami’s Urban Leadership Program in Cleveland, Ohio. In Cleveland, she worked with Nepali and Burmese immigrants and refugees, helping them practice their English and adjust to life in the U.S. She also worked with a group of Mexican exchange students working to improve their hometowns.

Before graduating from Miami, Priya became a Fulbright Scholar finalist and was accepted to several prominent law schools. But after graduation, she instead chose to participate in Teach for America, to pass on some of the lessons she learned from her professors at Miami. Someday, she plans to attend law school and spend her life fighting for international justice.
