This proposal envisions a future with leading-edge capabilities in data and analytics, relevant to today’s student and in demand across the career marketplace. When fully developed, these capabilities will complement our traditional undergraduate academic excellence and our selected graduate programs.
Miami’s Center for Analytics and Data Science (CADS) already collaborates across three academic divisions and more than a dozen departments. CADS will evolve to an institute model, leading Miami’s collaborative partnerships and research with external partners.
When fully developed, new academic degrees will complement the critical thinking skills and core competencies developed in Miami’s top-ranked undergraduate liberal arts education and graduate programs. Faculty will develop these programs:
Multiple undergraduate certificate programs in analytics and a minor in sport analytics.
Bachelor of Arts degree in data analytics (BADA).
Stackable graduate certificates for working professionals.
New master's degrees in three academic divisions with other programs planned.
Leading Faculty on the Project
John Bailer University Distinguished Professor and Chair, Statistics
Adam Beissel Assistant Professor, Sport Leadership & Management
John "Skip" Benamati Professor and Chair, Information Systems and Analytics
Mike Brudzinski Professor, Geology
Allison Jones-Farmer Van Andel Professor, Information Systems and Analytics
Impact:
The initiative will fill a rising market need for employees with data-driven decision-making skills and will enhance the Miami brand as a premier destination for analytics training at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
