Troubleshooting Screens

We have three different types of screens department-wide:

  • NEC: First round of screen installs Non-renovated or new Res Halls and Dining Locations, Rec Center, Goggin, Marcum, ASC and Harris Menus
  • Panasonic - 1: Etheridge and Maplestreet Station Res Halls
  • Panasonic - 2: Garden, Maplestreet and Western Menu Boards, all new or renovated Res Halls

Where are the controls?

1. Computer Unit: Controls the power and Ethernet connection for video output of ads/menus. Located on the left side of the screen. 2. Main unit power switch: Controls power for the whole unit - computer and TV. Located behind the screen in center. 3. TV control buttons: Controls power for TV and input setting. Located along the bottom of the screen. 4. TV Power On/Off Light: Shows whether the TV or unit is on or off. Located on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Most common issues and how to troubleshoot

1. There’s nothing showing on the screen

  • Check the power on the TV. The power light should be green.
    • If the power light is red, push the power button (first from the right).
    • If there is no light, check the main unit power. Try the switch. If this does nothing, check to make sure the TV cord did not come unplugged.
  • Check the computer unit power. The power light should be green.
    • If there is no power light, push the computer power button (it is a rectangle shape just above the Ethernet cord).
    • If no light comes on after pushing, check the main unit power.
  • Check the Input
    • If you’ve concluded that power is on correctly, check the input. This is the third button from the right on the TV control buttons. You should be on Option D for input.
    • NEC screens that use an Intel NUC, your input setting will be HDMI.

2. "No Signal" Error on screen

  • Check the input
  • Check the computer unit power

TV control buttons: Controls power for TV and input setting. Located along the bottom of the screen.

Most common issues and how to troubleshoot

1. There’s nothing showing on the screen

  • Check the power on the TV. The power light should be green.
    • If there is not power light, push the power button (1st from left).
    • If there is still no light, check the main TV power to make sure it did not come unplugged.
  • Check the computer unit power. The power light should be green.
    • If there is no power light, push the computer power button (it is a rectangle shape just above the Ethernet cord)
    • If no light comes on after pushing, contact Mark.
  • Check the Input
    • If you’ve concluded that power is on correctly, check the input (2nd from the left). You should be on a “slot input” option for input.

2. "No Signal" Error on screen

  • Check the input
  • Check the computer unit power

    • If the power light is not on, push the power button (bottom button).
    • If there is still no light, to make sure the TV cord did not come unplugged.
  • Check the computer unit power. The power light should be green.
    • If there is no power light, push the computer power button (it is a circular shape in a corner on the front of the NUC.
  • Check the Input
    • If you’ve concluded that power is on correctly, check the input (top button). You should be on an HDMI option for input.

2. "No Signal" Error on screen

  • Check the input
  • Check the computer unit power
