The majors offered by the Department of French and Italian are composed of broad but comprehensive classes emphasizing not only the development of linguistic proficiency, but also cultural competence, all in the context of today's global society. These majors are designed to prepare students for a number of careers requiring critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and peer collaboration, as well as for continuing studies in Academia. In particular, the Department's French Honors program, modeled on its graduate program, offers a more rigorous course of study, terminating in a degree with departmental distinction.
