Joanne Gula

Joanne Gula is a visiting assistant professor. Gula is teaching the course STC 459 - capstone strategic communication and PR. This class specifically studies public relations campaigns. While teaching, she wants to encourage the student to think outside the box, and emphasizes the importance of a global perspective.

Gula earned her master’s degree at Fairfield University in Connecticut and her doctorate degree at Amherst College in Massachusetts. She has taught all across the country, including in New York at Ithaca College, in Boston at Emerson College and in Hawaii at Hawaii Pacific University. In Colorado, she taught communications, advertising and public relations for four years. Joanne has also taught internationally. For four years, she taught in China in the United International College at Beijing Normal University – Hong Kong Baptist University United International College.

Gula was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Connecticut. She has a passion for theater and loves plays. Traveling captivates her. She is on the pursuit of adventure and change. Right now, she is writing a book conveying the experience she had in China, potentially to be titled, “Where’s My Fortune Cookie?” Gula looks into cultural contrast and how drastic of a change it was being in China.

 

With a strong advertising background, Gula was the marketing director for the city of Bangor, Maine. She worked in the top ad agency, Ogilvy. Along with this, Gula worked as cable TV administrator for Ponca City in Oklahoma. She started and owned a business, Young Children’s Acting School Production Company in San Francisco.

 

Out of her love for animals, Gula takes it upon herself to rescue abused and maltreated animals. She was  part of a group that started a Humane Society in Oklahoma. With this venture, Gula had a radio talk show. In this, she talked about and photographed animals up for adoption and wrote all of the newspaper articles and advertisements for their adoption.
