Expansion and Marketing of Medicare Advantage to Persons With End-Stage Kidney Disease

In this qualitative study of interviews with 56 participants from Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, kidney care management companies, and dialysis organizations, MA marketing to persons with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) was reported to offer insurance coverage and supplementary benefits that were often inadequate for the complex medical needs of this population. These findings suggest that policymakers and industry experts should consider the complexity of insurance selection decisions and monitor the accuracy of MA marketing of ESRD-specific benefits.
