Assistant professor Jeff Kruth publishes new research book

On November 17, 2022, assistant professor Jeff Kruth published his new book, “Urban Histories in Practice: Morphologies and Memory,” co-edited with Kent State colleague Steven Rugare

It explores his and other authors’ case studies on industrialization across various countries, and examines the relationship between our contemporary cultures and cities and our histories.

Kruth wrote it as a call-to-action for readers and Miami students to search for a more equitable society.

"The book is intended as a resource for any discipline interested in how contemporary changes to the material culture of the city shift our understanding of memory and place,” Kruth said. “The book touches on issues relevant to architecture, urban planning, historic preservation, and politics in the city.”

Eventually, it could even help enlighten the greater world.

“Given the international scope of the case studies in the book, we hope to further a discourse surrounding urban morphology and cultural change in relation to population decline in cities of the Global North and the rapid urbanization in cities of the Global South," Kruth said.

The book belongs to a series, “The Arts, Design and Culture in Cities.” You can learn more about and purchase it from Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
