Miami University is hosting its annual Double Reed Day on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

The day will include masterclasses, A Double Reed Band BASH for EVERYONE, complementary bassoon and oboe repairs and adjustments by Jake Vidourek, reed making, and plenty of friendship!

It also provides an information session from Chair of the Department of Music, Dr. Chris Tanner about the University and its music program to students and parents of high school students. 

Plus, 7-12th grade oboists and bassoonists are invited to  participate in Youth Solo Competitions sponsored by F. Lorée—Paris  and Barton Cane, respectively. Third place earns reed making supplies, second  place takes $100, and first place wins $200 and a performance in an afternoon recital. 

Dwight Parry, Principal Oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony will be among the adjudicators..

Registration fee is $25 and includes lunch and a double reed celebratory T-shirt. All students must register and mail their check by Wednesday, March 29th for a T-shirt and for the all-you-can-eat lunch at Western Dining Hall. There is no supplemental competition entry fee.

Vendors: Oboe Chicago will exhibit new Lorée oboes and English horns, and Double or Nothing Reeds from Cincinnati will have plenty of fun double reed materials for purchase.

Guest clinicians include professors at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Jaren Atherholt (Oboe) and Stephanie Patterson (Bassoon). Dr. Glenn Harman, director of the IDRS Conferences Double Reed Community Band will conduct the Double Reed Band Bash.

Professors of Music at Miami, Andrea Ridilla (oboe) and Aaron Pergram (bassoon), will be your hosts on campus for the day.

Visitors to Miami's campus need to obtain a parking pass online in advance from the Miami Parking site. Have your license plate number available when filling out the form.
