Academic Attire

Academic attire is required at BOTH the university and divisional ceremonies.

Associate's degree candidates wear the same robe as bachelor's candidates. Master's candidates must wear a robe and hood. Doctoral candidates need to purchase only cap, gown, and tassel, as the hood will be awarded as part of the ceremony. Special orders need to be placed no later than Friday, March 23, 2018, to make sure they will be here in time for commencement. Doctoral candidates and university faculty members who want to rent faculty-quality attire should contact Karen Bontrager at the Miami University Bookstore by May 8 at 513-529-2601. Any orders received after that date will result in a late fee.

The Miami University Bookstore carries the full array of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral garments. On Saturday, May 19, personnel will be available at the bookstore kiosk (located at the Yager Stadium west entrance) to provide garment assistance prior to the ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. Additional bookstore hours include the following:

  • Oxford (Shriver Center): Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Hamilton: Sunday, May 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (subject to change)

All attire will be available for purchase at the Miami University Bookstore April 1 to May 19 and will be available for purchase online March 1 to May 3.
