Reading Endorsement

TEAM Scholarship

The Teacher Education Access at Miami Scholarship provides a 50% discount on graduate tuition and fees for Ohio's PreK-12 Educators.

A Reading Endorsement can be added to a valid Ohio teaching license upon (a) successful completion of required graduate level reading education courses (EDT 603,642,646,632,635), and (b) passing the OAE Reading subtest l-038 & OAE Reading subtest ll-039 both with a qualifying score of 220 (see www.oh.nesinc.com for registering, preparation, etc.). Such an endorsement enables a teacher to teach reading in grades K-12 in the state of Ohio. Upon passing the tests you need to complete the application to add the Reading Endorsement as a second teaching field. Find the application at the Ohio Department of Education website.

Note: If you are taking your Reading Endorsement classes as continuing non degree graduate status (CGS), but plan on entering a Graduate program at a later date please keep in mind that you are only allowed to take 12 graduate hours before entering into a master’s program. You will only receive credit for the first 12 hours of graduate work.

Course Requirements

*If you took a phonics course in your undergraduate program, you are exempt from taking EDT 642.
