Butler County Veterans Service Commission

The Butler County Veterans Service Commission's mission is to ensure that the veterans living in Butler County receive every possible benefit entitled to them on a federal, state and county level. They strive to maintain a strong relationship between the veterans, spouses or widows/widowers of veterans, dependents of veterans, and the agencies in place to serve them.

Called to Active Duty

Miami University complies with federal and state regulations to assist students who are called to active duty during the semester/term. It is recommended that students schedule an appointment to discuss grades in current classes (including an incomplete) and the procedures for properly withdrawing from the University and future re-enrollment by contacting Ashley Hopkins in the Student Success Center at hopkinab@MiamiOH.edu or 513-529-3786.

Graduation Recognition for Those Who Have Served in the Military

Graduating student veterans and those on active duty are presented in an official ceremony hosted by members of Miami's Military Assistance Group with a Military Honor Cord if the student has made their service known in advance to the Office of the University Registrar.

Military Assistance Group (MAG)

Convened in the summer of 2015, this group of faculty and staff provides ad hoc support for all military-affiliated students (U.S. military veterans, those on active status with U.S. Guard and Reserve units, active-duty military, ROTC cadets, and dependents of those who have or are serving). The MAG directory can be found on the HUB site for the Oxford chapter of the Student Veterans of America.

The MAG includes the following information:

    • advocacy
    • applying VA education benefits
    • billing
    • general questions
    • pre-deployment
    • registration and transfer credit
  • counseling and crisis information
  • social support offices

Student Veterans of America

Miami is home to three chapters, one on each campus. These chapters are part of the national Student Veterans of America organization and are listed on the HUB. There is a designated advisor/point of contact for each campus:

Vets Center

The Vets Center is a support agency for counseling assistance for veterans.
