University Mail Room Receives Award
The mail room recently received an award from intelligent locker vendor, Neopost, for efficiency in distribution technology. Miami was the most efficient in package distribution operation for a university over 7,000 students for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Neopost has approximately 45 locations at universities across the United States. Neopost evaluated Miami’s metrics against other schools, including total package volume, turn time (how quickly a package is picked up/stays in the locker), and locker occupancy rate.
Miami University policies and procedures, developed as part of the Student Package Delivery Lean project, are largely responsible for this distinction, including: direct vendor load of packages; 24 hour in-locker pick-up window; return of packages not picked up within 72 hours; and implementing a 'locker first' model where most packages are distributed through intelligent lockers.
Congratulations to all of the University Mail Room staff on this award!
Certification News- Geothermal Plant Tour
20 Lean Leaders recently toured the Miami University Geothermal Plant as part of their continuing education. During a 90 minute presentation and tour, Lean Leaders learned about the geothermal heat exchange facility on the Western Campus. The geothermal plant supplies efficient heating and cooling to Beechwoods, Hillcrest, Stonebridge, Clawson and Havighurst residence halls, Presser and Hoyt halls, the Child Development Center and Western Dining Commons and will eventually serve all Western Campus buildings.
The presentation and tour hosted by Doug Hammerle, director of energy systems, was informative and a value added educational opportunity for those in the Lean Certification program. Special thanks to both Doug Hammerle and Larry Davidson, hydronics systems ops manager, who made this tour possible.
