Please note: Financial awards are highly competitive. To be considered for a fellowship or graduate assistantship, your completed application must be received by January 1.

Loans

In addition to awards and scholarships administered through the Graduate School and the Farmer School of Business, U.S. citizens and permanent residents may also qualify for Federal Direct Loans.

To be considered for a Federal Direct Loan, prospective students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For priority consideration, the FAFSA should be submitted as soon after January 1 as possible.

Students may also qualify for private loan funding, which is based on credit. Students holding graduate assistantships are advised to check with the Office of Student Financial Assistance before contacting private lenders, because they may not have eligibility for additional funds.

MAcc Financial Awards

Deciding to pursue a graduate degree is an investment in your future. While it may be costly to pursue in the short term, we firmly believe you will reap the rewards of your investment as you progress through your career. We offer a number of financial awards to qualified students to help defray the cost of your graduate program.

Fellowship and Graduate Assistantships

The Department of Accountancy awards merit-based graduate assistantships to its strongest admitted students.

  • The C. Rollin Niswonger Fellowship provides a waiver of all tuition and fees plus an annual stipend of approximately $6,000; no duties are required.
  • Graduate assistantships cover 93% of the comprehensive fee; you will earn a monthly stipend of approximately $500. Students awarded these assistantships work 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, most often assisting Farmer School faculty in non-teaching roles.
  • Partial graduate assistantships cover 25-50% of the comprehensive fee; you will earn a monthly stipend of approximately $125-$250. Students awarded these assistantships work 3 to 5 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, most often assisting Farmer School faculty in non-teaching roles.

All admitted applicants to the MAcc program will be considered for either the fellowship or the assistantships. There is no separate application for assistantships.

Scholarships

The Department of Accountancy awards many different scholarships from funds provided by alumni, firms/corporations, and friends of the department. These scholarships are awarded to students based on merit and/or demonstrated financial need. Again, all applicants to the MAcc program will be considered for our scholarships. There is no separate application for scholarships.

Graduate Grants-in-Aid

Graduate Grants-in-Aid waive the cost of tuition, but do not include a stipend and carry no work requirements. The deadline to apply is March 1, but we recommend you apply as early as possible through the Graduate School.

Please note: International students do not need to submit an application; outstanding applicants will be nominated by the program to be considered for a grant-in-aid.

Diversity Enhancement Program (DEP) Assistantships

Admitted students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and can add to the diversity of the overall Graduate School may be eligible for DEP assistantships. The awards offer the same benefits and require the same responsibilities as the graduate assistantships. The Department of Accountancy will nominate qualified students for these awards. No separate application is required.
