Experiential Learning

The Center for Analytics and Data Science hosts experiential learning opportunities to push students to apply their skills outside of a traditional academic setting. These opportunities include:

  • Hands-on Client Projects : Client projects expose students to real world data to further develop their  data wrangling skills outside of a traditional academic setting. Solving real problems with real data better prepares our students for careers as analytics professionals. Partners, who work with our students on projects, gain valuable insights and answers, while our students benefit from the experience of working with business leaders.

  • DataFest: DataFest is a big data competition sponsored by the ASA where students are put on a 48 hour clock to offer insight from real world data. Students work in teams to clean, understand, and analyze data. Not only does this weekend give students the chance to build their technical skills, but through final presentations to industry judges, students have a chance to refine their soft skills as well.

  • Study Away Scholarships: Study away scholarships give analytics students the great chance to not only further develop their analytics skills through classes, but also the experience see other cultures different than their own and to grow through the opportunity.
