Business in the Global Market

Business In the Global Market Requirements

Previously the China Business Certificate Program, Business in the Global Market allows students to expand their global knowledge and focus on an entire region. Upon enrolling in the Business in the Global Market certificate program, you will select one of four regional concentrations: Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Central and South America, or Europe. As you move through the curriculum, you will engage in language practice, cultural engagement, an overseas experience, and business coursework, all related to your selected concentration.

*NOTE: for students who enrolled at Miami prior to Fall 2020, you will remain in the China Business Certificate Program unless you opt into the new certificate: Business in the Global Market. For CBP requirements, refer to the CBP Canvas Page or the 2019-20 Miami Bulletin. If you would like to opt into the new certificate program or have questions, email Ashley Jarvis (jarvisap@miamioh.edu).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

You are invited to add the BGM Certificate through the FSB Change of Program Form. Your request will be reviewed by Ashley Jarvis, Academic Advisor. We will be in touch with you regarding your admission into the program within two weeks of receiving your request to add the certificate.

Is Business in the Global Market a major?

No. Rather, Business in the Global Market is a certificate program that enhances your business major and your Miami degree. Upon completion of BGM, you will receive a certificate, as well as a notation on your academic transcript identifying you to future employers as a specialist in Business in the Global Market.

The program complements any business major you select, giving you international business expertise and experience in a particular region of the world. Program requirements will not interfere with the requirements of your chosen major.

What does it cost to participate in Business in the Global Market?

There are no special costs associated with participation in the program. In planning for your overseas experience, you will work closely with Ashley Jarvis to ensure that you are prepared, both academically and financially. Scholarships are available through FSB, Miami and externally for study.

What if I change my mind?

If you decide not to pursue a business degree at Miami, or if you decide that Business in the Global Market is not for you, there is no penalty for withdrawing from the program.
